Description |
Written on verso: Plate 2, Field Guide to Mexican Birds and Adjacent Central America, 1973 Roger Tory Peterson was an American naturalist, ornithologist, educator, and illustrator who helped inspire the 20th century conservation movement. His field books on birds stimulated an incredible amount of public interest in the study of birds. Peterson's first guide for birds was published in 1934. Beloved because of their simple approach, Peterson's guides focused on illustrations rather than full descriptions of species. The side-by-side diagrams of birds highlighted the minute details of differences between subspecies. His texts gave bird enthusiasts advice on bird identification, but also provided detailed information about when and where to look for birds, as well as birds' natural preadators and reproduction. |
