Description |
Hat, known as a "shtreimel" in Yiddish. It is made of navy blue velvet and trimmed with wide band of black beaver (?) fur. The inside is lined with a lighter blue satin-like quilted material. This type of hat is known as a "shtreimel" in Yiddish. Though non-Jewish in origin, these fur hats were adpoted in the late 18th century from the Polish and Russian winter fur hats by Eastern European Hasidic Jews as a head covering. Specifically, they are worn by married Hasidic men. |
