Description |
Watercolor illustration of two Western Lark Sparrows. One is on the ground amidst grasses looking left, and the other is perched on a small branch, looking right. Written on verso: Western Lark Sparrow / Adult - Chilliwack, BC 21 May 1889 / Young - Okangen, BC 21 Aug 1911 Allan Brooks was a Canadian painter, illustrator, and naturalist. This is a Western Lark Sparrow drawn by the artists in Chiliwack, British Columbia—his family moved there in 1887 to start a farm, and this painting was made a few years later. This painting thus represents Brooks’ earlier work, before he became well established as a bird illustrator. |
