Made at the Berlin Porcelain Factory and decorated by Ambrosius Lamm, who opened a decorating studio in Dresden, Germany in 1887. This plate is part of a dinner set decorated by the famous Dresden-area porcelain painter Ambrosius Lamm. Adorned with scenes from famous operas, the scene at center is from the opera Tristan and Isolde, written by German composer Richard Wagner. The lyres, swans, netting, and beading on the edge of the plate are done in raised gilt. Monogrammed tableware was a coveted luxury ware at the turn of the century. |
