Description |
White glazed porcelain vase. The large, heavy vase is amphora-shaped with a collared rim opening. The white vase is plain and undecorated, with a high gloss glaze on the outside. Made by the Berlin Porcelain Factory (KPM), Berlin, Germany. The Royal Porcelain Factory in Berlin (Königliche Porzellan-Manufaktur, abbreviated as KPM), is one of the oldest porcelain manufactories in Europe, and is still in operation today. KPM was founded in 1763 by Frederick II of Prussia, who admired the factory’s "white gold," a type of porcelain so fine that it brought to mind high-quality Chinese porcelain. The Bauhaus style favored well-made but simplified forms, and around 1929, KPM artists adapted to this shift in taste, creating porcelain with smooth, polished surfaces, functional forms, and minimal decoration. This pair of amphora vases is likely part of KPM's Bauhaus-inspired pieces. |
