Description Chinese Sancai glazed earthenware earth spirit, Tang Dynasty (618-907 CE). Earth spirits (zhenmushou) were fantastic tomb guardians, often taking the form of hybrid creatures with animal and human elements. This four-legged figure has long, ridged curling horns growing from a lion-like head.
