Malachy Postlethwayt and Anthony Walker North America, Plate IV Engraving London, 1752 English writer and commerce expert Malachy Postlethwayt published his most famous work, The Universal Dictionary of Trade and Commerce, in installments between 1751 and 1755. Postlethwayt's publication was essentially a translated version of an earlier French volume, Jacques Savary des Bruslons' Dictionnaire universal de commerce (1723-1730), with substantial additions. North America, Plate IV from Postlethwayt's Universal Dictionary covers modern southern California and Mexico.
