Artist statement: In selecting the Mastodon Mandible from the McClung Museum collection, I was aware that I would be using it as an opportunity to memorialize the slaughter of a legendary Bull elephant called Satao. Though living in the protected Tsavo East National Park in Kenya, Africa, Satao sadly became one of thousands of elephants slaughtered around the clock for profit by poachers.
