|Notes||Alvin Jewett Johnson and Ross C. Browning entered into a business partnership in 1859, and their company purchased the rights to the works of the J. H. Colton cartographic firm. Their first important publication was the Johnson's New Illustrated (Steel Plate) Family Atlas (1860), which incorporated many maps originally created by Colton.|
